After-School Hair and Beauty Club
Empowering Young People Through Skill Development and Community Engagement
Introduction
The establishment of an after-school club dedicated to Hair and Beauty education for young people. The club aims to provide a safe, supportive, and positive environment where participants can develop practical skills, build friendships, and enhance their wellbeing. By offering structured sessions after school, we seek to give students a constructive outlet and encourage community engagement.
Recognising the growing interest in barbering among young boys, we are introducing an in-house course specifically tailored to this age group. Although VTCT is currently in the process of developing a formal qualification for barbering, our interim programme will provide valuable foundational skills and practical experience, ensuring these participants are well-prepared for future accreditation opportunities.
Programme Details
The club offers two-hour sessions on Hair and Beauty Level 1 for ages 14 and above, and entry-level courses for ages 13 and above. All programmes are mapped to VTCT qualifications, ensuring participants gain recognised credentials that can support future progression in the industry. Sessions are designed to be inclusive and accessible, with a focus on hands-on learning and skill development.
Wellbeing and Social Support
In addition to practical training, the club actively promotes wellbeing and social interaction. Activities are designed to foster friendship-building and personal development, creating a welcoming atmosphere where young people can support one another and grow in confidence.
Academic Support
To further enhance learning, the club incorporates maths and English support for all participants. Small written assignments are used to help with spelling, punctuation, and grammar (SPAG), ensuring students gain valuable academic skills alongside their vocational training. Staff provide guidance and correction in a supportive manner, making academic improvement a natural part of the club experience.
Resources Provided
All tools and equipment necessary for Hair and Beauty activities are supplied, allowing every participant to fully engage without additional expense. Refreshments are also provided during each session to ensure comfort and wellbeing.
Community Impact
The club offers young people a positive place to go after school, contributing to community cohesion and reducing social isolation. By nurturing talent and fostering new friendships, the club becomes a valued resource for both participants and the wider community.
Costing
Costing has been carefully considered to ensure the club remains as accessible as possible for all families. Each session is priced at £35.00, with a one-off registration fee of £75.00. We have endeavoured to keep these costs to a minimum; however, the registration fee is a requirement from VTCT and cannot be reduced further at this time.
Duration
The course runs over a period of 16 weeks, with sessions taking place once per week. This schedule offers participants a consistent and manageable learning experience while accommodating school and family commitments.
Staff Credentials
All staff members are enhanced DBS checked and fully qualified teachers, ensuring a safe and professional learning environment. Experienced educators are present at every session, delivering high-quality instruction and pastoral support.
Conclusion
We invite school administrators, parents, and community leaders to support the launch of this after-school Hair and Beauty club. Together, we can empower young people, strengthen the community, and provide meaningful opportunities for growth.
